WHAT ARE WHOLE HERB TINCTURE EXTRACTS?
Tinctures are one of the most powerful ways to take herbal medicine. A whole herb extract is a concentrated extraction of nearly all the active ingredients of a herb or part of the herb like the flowers, leaves, fruit, seeds, bark or roots in its whole.
We do not tamper with the natural constituents of the herbs. On the whole, herb extract is a synergetic interplay between all active ingredients intended by nature. The natural balance within a whole herb extract works in harmony with and supports your body’s natural ability to heal & restore itself. We use grain alcohol as a solvent & preservative. Grain alcohol is a powerful solvent that extracts nearly all active ingredients from a herb creating a concentrated tincture extract that needs a lower dosage.

Herbs are extracted in 49.95% food-grade ethanol alcohol.
Pros
- Food grade alcohol is the most potent menstruum and one of the best forms of taking herbal remedies & benefits from a broad spectrum of active ingredients. It can extract almost all active ingredients from a plant, making a broad spectrum of a herb’s medicinal properties available.
- Tinctures are very stable and have a shelf life of between 4 and 5 years.
- Tinctures are very concentrated, and low dosages are needed.
- Fast acting – Pre-dissolved and quickly taken into the bloodstream to the body systems.
- It can be diluted with water in a smoothie, tea or juice.
- Alcohol extract alkaloids, glycosides, volatile oils, waxes, resins, fats, some tannins, balsams, sugars and vitamins.
- Another important consideration is the absorbance ability of the extraction method. Alcohol has quick access to the liver, which means the body quickly absorbs the active ingredients & phytochemicals.
- We use a balanced ratio of 50% distilled water and 50% food-grade ethanol alcohol. The resulting extract contains 49.99% alcohol (99.99 proof). Why the added water? Distilled water can extract certain water-soluble compounds from a herb that is not always soluble in alcohol. Together, they create a balanced solvent that extracts high yields and large varieties of phytochemicals from most herbs in the correct ratios. (The phytochemical of certain herbs can only be removed with a higher alcohol percentage, which we do. For example, if we need 85% alcohol to extract a specific herb’s phytochemicals, we balance the alcohol-water ratio afterwards to standardise the alcohol percentage in all our tinctures. Our goal is to ensure high-quality extracts rich in various phytochemicals, nutrients and other active ingredients.
Cons
- Strong and intense taste is not always popular with children and sensitive people.
- Contains alcohol. Even though the percentage intake per dosage is extremely low and not harmful to the body, some people prefer not to use alcohol for different reasons.
- Alcoholics prefer not to use anything that contains alcohol (Our tinctures are saved for recovering alcoholics as the amount taken per dosage is far too low to have an effect.) Add dosage to boiled water & let it cool down. Most of the alcohol will evaporate while the active ingredients stay intact.

Cons
- Not as concentrated as tinctures, yet extract a great variety of phytochemicals.
- Shelve-stable for up to one year and six months if properly stored. (Cool dark place) It is not as shelve stable as tinctures.
- Not safe for babies under the age of one year as it contains honey. Babies should not take honey is not safe for babies under the age of one year.
