Tanacetum parthenium (Altamisa, Batchelor button, camomille grande, featherfew, Featherfoil, Flirtwort, Midsummer daisy, Santa Maria)

Traditional uses
- Relieve migraines & headaches – Parthenolide, a compound in Feverfew, relieves smooth muscle spasms & combats the widening of blood vessels in migraines. Feverfew inhibits inflammatory substances that contribute to the onset of migraines.
- Menstrual cycle – Reduces prostaglandin production, which eases menstrual cramps. It reduces discomfort associated with menstruation & normalises blood flow.
- Relieve fever related to inflammation
- Toothache – It is applied directly to the gums for toothache
- Skeletal System – Anti-inflammatory properties help prevent swelling and damage to joints, and alleviate arthritis and muscle pain.
- Skin – Treat skin issues like acne by lessening inflammation. It is used for psoriasis and itchy skin.
- Properties – Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, insecticide, analgesic
Contraindications
- Feverfew should not be used by patients allergic to other members of the Asteraceae family, such as aster, chamomile, chrysanthemum, ragweed, sunflower, tansy, and yarrow.
- Due to its potential antiplatelet effects, it is not recommended in patients undergoing surgery. Patients with blood clotting disorders should consult their health care provider before using products containing feverfew.
